A GSM gateway, otherwise known as a fixed cellular terminal, is an intelligent piece of equipment, which recognises a mobile phone call when the digits 077 - 079 are dialled from any desk telephone handset. GSM gateways or FCTs (fixed cellular terminals) work on the premise that it’s cheaper to call a mobile from a mobile than from a landline. L2MC’s GSM equipment connects to the existing phone lines and - instead of using traditional LCR (least cost routing) or CPS (carrier pre select) - their GSM gateway intercepts all calls to mobiles and sends them over the GSM network. This usually saves businesses 50%. If making a call to a local or national number, the gateway will simply forward the call in the normal fashion and choose to route it via PSTN / PBX.
